Q.
What do we need to bring to camp?
A. Bible, swimming suit,
sleeping bag and pillow, towels, toiletry items,
flashlight, hiking or tennis shoes, insect
repellant, sunscreen, jacket, umbrella, and
camera are just a few suggestions.
Q.
What is not allowed at camp?
A. Alcohol, clothing with
vulgar or offensive graphics,
recreational/illegal drugs, tobacco products,
"suggestive" bathing suits, ipods, cell phones,
PDAs, video game devices, and fireworks. A good
rule of thumb is if you have to ask if it is
allowed, then it probably is not. It is also
recommended to not bring any expensive digital
camera equipment. Instead, consider a
disposable camera!
Q. Where does your staff come
from? How are they trained?
A. Our staff members come from all
over - this year from Nebraska Universities,
Illinois, Missouri, Mexico, and The Netherlands.
Word of mouth from former campers and counselors
and our website help us find experienced and
skilled program specialists, program counselors,
and kitchen assistants. We believe it's
great for children to see a group of people from
various backgrounds who work together, care
about each other, live by a high set of
standards and values, and pour themselves out
for campers. In addition to rigorous
application and interview processes, all staff
members commit to a strict no alcohol policy
during the summer, even on their time off.
It's part of our staff demonstrated commitment
that they are at camp for the children - first
and foremost. Our counselors bond together
for a seven day, intense training clinic prior
to the start of camp. From this, they
emerge with a firm understanding of Camp
Comeca's program along with a high level of
safety consciousness. We also make sure
that all staff are trained and certified in
First Aid/Emergency Lifesaving techniques and
specialists have certified accreditation from
their respective fields.
Q.
What is your camper/counselor ratio?
A. We maintain that all camps
facilitate one staff and one volunteer counselor
per cabin (approx 1:6).
Q.
What if I have food allergies?
A. Please let us know in
advance and we can accommodate any dietary
requirements.
Q.
Can a camper come to more than one week of
camp?
A. Yes,
provided that the camp is not full. We do
caution parents not to do too many weeks.
Camp does require a separae registration form
for each camping event.
Q.
Can my child leave camp early or for an
event?
A. The camp feels that
the best way for a camper to experience the full
benefits of camp is to not leave during the
week. However, we do understand that this
is not always possible. If a camper must
leave early or for an event, they must provide a
note from the parent and sign out at the camp
office.
Q.
What if I cannot transport my child to camp?
A. Transportation to and
from the camp by Charter Bus from Omaha,
Lincoln, and through Route 80 is available for
an additional fee. Please call the office
if you are interested in this option.
Q.
Is activity equipment provided?
A. Yes. We provide all
equipment needed to participate in any of our
activities.
Q.
Can boys/girls swim at the same time?
A. Yes.
Q.
Can my child stay through to an additional
camp?
A. Yes, any camp that
ends the same day another camp for that
student's age group begins can be "tagged on"
for a lower cost.
Q.
Do you have a lifeguard?
A. Yes, the state requires one
certified lifeguard for every fifty people
occupying the swimming area. During the summer,
the lifeguards administer swim tests to allow
access to the deep end of the pool.
Q.
Do you have a first aid station?
A. Yes, we have a fully
stocked medical station as well as multiple
staff members trained in emergency procedures.
Q.
Do you have a Camp Store?
A. Yes. Our canteen is open
regularly during the camping weeks. Students
can purchase sodas, snow cones, candy, ice
cream, shirts, souvenirs, and more.
Q. Can I
call or visit my child at camp?
A. One of the most significant
elements of the camp experience is learning
independence. We know it's hard
(especially for parents) to be apart; however,
our experience has taught us that kids adjust to
life much more easily if they rely on themselves
and their peers at camp. If a child is
homesick, a parent's voice can intensify sad
feelings, therefore we do not have campers use
the phone and do not offer parent visiting
times. We do, however, stay in contact
with you while your child is at camp. If
any problem arises, we will contact you
immediately. We encourage parents to send mail
to correspond with their child!
Q.
How do I get in touch with my child during an
emergency?
A. If it is an emergency, you
may call the Camp Office at 308-784-2808 and we
can take a message. We will give this message to
the director and they will have the child return
the call. Other than emergency situations, we do
now allow children to interact with anyone
outside the camp with the exception of letters
and packages.
Q.
Can I send mail to my child at camp?
A. Absolutely! Please have the
child's name and the camp name ("Sonshine I",
"Adventure Camp", etc) on the letter or
package. Our mailing address is 75670 Road 417,
Cozad NE 69130. Children are also encouraged to
send mail out as well. Any UPS or USPS packages
will be delivered to the facility, not directly
to the children.
Q.
Can I volunteer?
A. If you are interested in
volunteering in some way, please
contact us!
Q.
How do I apply for a job?
A. Camp Comeca hires between
14-18 staff members for their summer programs.
If you are interested in working at the camp,
please contact us between January and April. |
